How to hold the best corporate summer party

If you’re in charge of organising your work summer party, now is the time to begin planning. Don’t worry, although it’s a huge responsibility – it can be amazing fun. And actually, pretty simple when you have the basics in place. So, let’s get started …

The Venue

It’s THE most important aspect of your summer party and can make or break an event. First and foremost, you need to consider size. How many guests will be attending? If you work for a small business, a private dining room can be spectacular, intimate and of course, allow for any non-seasonal weather conditions. Pick a venue that has a pretty courtyard just in case the sun makes an appearance and serve Champagne. How gorgeous?! However, if there are a lot of staff to celebrate the year with, a garden party is ideal and a striking venue is just what you need. Pick a venue with character – somewhere unusual to wow guests. But also ensure it’s easy to get to, has plenty of parking and is a space that suits your catering needs – whatever they may be.

The Theme

Here are a few ideas to get the creative juices flowing! A mini-festival, 1920s Great Gatsby, Las Vegas casino, a Moroccan marquee, enchanted garden, Mad Hatters tea party, circus, tropical beach, carnival …just think of the possibilities! Once you have your theme decided, you’ll find everything else falls into place and deciding on the food and drinks, for example, becomes much easier.

The Food

Speaking of food, after the venue and the theme, the food you serve at your corporate event is pretty high up on the list of things people will remember. So, it’s got to be good. If you’re having a strict theme, such as enchanted garden – think trays of beautiful canapés. Mini-festival? It’s got to be food shacks. And a Moroccan marquee party calls for truly authentic North African cuisine ate whilst sat on a Persian rug!

The Drinks

Summer parties, whatever your theme, calls for cocktails. Think imaginatively and consider your theme. Pimms or Sangria served in jugs with fresh chopped fruit and plenty of ice are always a delight. However, a popular trend recently, and something a little different, is to use Rose wine as the base for a cocktail with a flavoured liqueur to complement it. Summer cocktails like these are fun, sophisticated and full and flavour. None more so than the classic Negroni. Gin, Vermouth Rosso and Campari, garnished with orange peel. Yum! For non-drinkers at your summer party, there are some great options for mocktails. Natural ingredients like coconut water, aloe and cold-pressed juices are a great non-alcoholic base for cocktails.


Don’t forget these important aspects of your work summer party:

  • Stage area for presentations or awards
  • Children’s area for family events
  • Professional photographer to capture the memories
  • Vegetarian and vegan food options
  • Music – speakers, DJ, band
  • Entertainment – magician, belly dancers, face painters

Lacklustre corporate parties are pointless and can actually make staff feel undervalued. Thinking of the extra little details will make all the difference if your aim is to thank, celebrate and make your guests feel really special.
